Dora Evans

Dora Lee (Johnson) Evans
January 31, 1943 ~ April 2, 2022 (age 79)

Dora Lee Evans, 79, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the evening of April 2, 2022. Dora was born in Rivesville, West Virginia, as Dora Mae Johnson, to James and Jeanette Johnson. The Johnson family was large and busy, with seven children in total. Dora's father worked in the Coal Mines which led to him passing of Black Lung at only 51 years of age. Her mother, Jeannette, maintained the household with the help of her children and family.

At only 19 years of age, Dora married her first husband and later had two children, Sharene and Arthur Everly. After her divorce, Dora became sole caretaker of her daughter, Sharene; she taught Sharene how to be strong, love unconditionally and withstand the challenges of life. Later in life, Dora reconnected with her son, Arthur, and established a thriving relationship.

Dora remarried in 1979, to Frank Evans who loved Dora deeply and happily assisted in raising Sharene. Though they shared no biological children, Frank loved Dora and her family as if they were his own until his passing in 1999.

Dora retired from Akron General Hospital as a nurse. Though retired, Dora remained a caregiver to anyone in need. Despite having little, Dora gave much and always made sure her family was provided for - she put family first, even before herself. Her love for family was deep and endless; in fact, when she moved away from the Johnson household in West Virginia, she and her mother, Jeannette, wrote letters to each other. Furthermore, Dora spoke highly and continuously of her father, James, and the example he gave her.

Dora's love for family was strong, but not as strong as her love for the Lord. She was a devout Christian who consistently spent time with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dora was a prayer warrior who never lacked in thanking God for His provisions in her life. Her love for the Lord was contagious and she would share her testimony with anyone willing to lend an ear.

When Dora was not expressing gratitude for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, you could find her walking outdoors, drinking sweet tea, writing, singing or dancing. Family was of the utmost importance to Dora; she demonstrated a "holy love" for her family at all times. Not only was Dora a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother or great-great grandmother but she was a friend to all and will be dearly missed.

Preceded in death by former husband, Frank Evans; parents, James and Jeanette (Murphy) Johnson; siblings, Donnie Lee, Augustus, Clifford and Ned Johnson and grandparents; William and Nancy (Ferrell) Murphy as well as Augustus and Elizabeth (Wine) Johnson.

She is survived by her children, Sharene and Arthur Everly; distant siblings, Iris and MaryAnn Johnson; grandchildren, Tasha and Benjamin Everly, Kourtney Berringer, Stephen Everly and Rachel (Jim) Bishop; great-grandchildren, Jeffery, Maylei and Karla Conner and Adelaide Everly and great-great grandson, Axel Conner, with another great-great grandson on the way. Last, but not least, Dora leaves behind a near and dear family friend, Dennis North, with whom she shared over a decade of joyful memories with.
